Help Me Dream Big, and Give Big

I sit and stare at the number on my computer screen. It’s big.

“Can I really sell that much jewelry? In that much time?”

Doubts and fears and second thoughts flood my mind. Is it worth it? Will people think I’m crazy? Will I annoy someone if I ask for their help?

But then I remember the payoff. Putting a significant dent in my student loan debt…and…the tropical icing on the cake…an all-expense-paid trip for two to Panama in January, 2014.

“Do I deserve that? Will I even want to leave my girls? Will I be too scared to fly?”

But then I remember the upside. Quality time with my husband. A chance to take a trip of a lifetime. Making memories that will tighten the bonds of our marriage for years to come.

Yes. I must do this. Yes. I CAN do this.

Some of you may or may not know that writing and communications consulting aren’t the only pieces of my self-employment income quilt. I needed the money, and as an added bonus, I also happened to love all the free jewelry I got along the way. While I still need the income to make ends meet, it’s grown into something more. It’s fun. And I’ve met some incredible women along the way.

I recently returned from the Silpada National Conference in Kansas City, where I was not only thoroughly entertained, but incredibly inspired. I heard stories of lifelong friendships formed, a woman’s ability to pay off her debt from cancer treatments, a wife’s delight in keeping their family afloat after her husband lost her job, and woman after woman spoke about the unbelievable opportunities they’ve been able to provide for their families along the way. And that’s the thing right there. Even though I heard stories of lavish incentives earned and of course, the beautiful free jewelry given, every woman had the same goal in mind. To give back. To her family, to her community, and yes, to herself. When a woman feels valued and competent and special, everyone wins.

And that’s where you come in. As a friend and follower of this blog, I want to give you the opportunity to help me dream big, and give big. Since 2003, they’ve provided emotional and financial assistance to families of children with cancer and blood-related illnesses, giving more than 650 families in excess of $220,000 in assistance. Erin’s mother Christy Wilson is not only an inspiration to other parents who are taking the painful cancer journey with their children, but also to me, as she’s the one who gave me the opportunity to start my Silpada business.

But wait, what’s that I said about free jewelry? This party is not only a fundraiser, but also a mystery hostess party! What does that mean? If you’ve ever been to a direct sales home party, you know that the hostess is rewarded for her time and efforts by earning free products depending on the success of her party.
