Much like I expected, my first day as a SAHM got off to a glorious start. I slept in late, then luxuriated over a cup of coffee while listening to the birds chirp “good morning” through the open kitchen window. I whistled a happy little tune while preparing a delicious, healthy breakfast for my darling daughters. A giggling sound floated down the stairs as Erica awoke, and Anna skipped down to breakfast with a smile on her face as warm as the April sunshine. (Ok, if you’re still reading along, thinking this is an accurate depiction of my morning, then you’re insane, or naive, or both.)
It’s a little early to tell what life as a SAHM (or WAHM, or whatever) will be like. I can tell you right now there’s one thing I’ll miss about …

It’s hard to believe it’s been a year since I took this video of Anna (aka Chocolate Monster). She wasn’t even two years old, and Erica was still kicking around in my belly. This is one of my favorite memories with Anna, and how I’ll always picture her, no matter how sophisticated she becomes. I might just have to show this to her first date. 🙂
If I’m lucky, I’ll have tomatoes like this someday. That’s a big IF.
I apologize if this post title is misleading. This isn’t an article with great advice on how to grow award-winning tomatoes, or succulent strawberries. Rather, this is a plea for help.
You see, I do not have one iota of green in my thumbs. In fact, I’ve been known to inadvertently kill nearly every plant I come into contact with. (I have one houseplant I’ve kept alive for four years, but that is an extreme exception to the rule.) This year, I desperately want a garden, but I fear that my time and money will be wasted when all the plants either whither and die, or don’t come up in the first place.
I’m fortunate enough that my parents have let me borrow their already-tilled, fenced …
We’re off to make new friends,
but we’ll always keep the old.
You’re no longer silver,
now you all are gold.
My last day at the Girl Scouts and the girls’ last day at daycare was bittersweet. We’re grateful to have made such great memories, and although we’re sad at what we’re leaving behind, we’re ready for the next adventure.
Daycare Buddies! Left to Right: Anna, Micah, Erica and Ian.
Everyone in the office was wearing cat ears when I came in today. I felt so special! Left to right: Me, Erin, Dianne, Traci and Muriel

I’ve committed to writing a post every day, which means I’ll need a little inspiration from time to time. My friend Dianne and I were just discussing the need for creative stimulus the other day, and she mentioned that she’d found a great way to get her juices flowing by receiving daily short phrases or words from instagr.am (an iPhone photo app). Below are a few of my favorites from her collection. (And for the record, this girl oozes creativity, so she doesn’t need much help. And yes, that’s actually her closet. I’m really only her friend so she’ll let me rummage through it someday.)
So, I’m looking for a little inspiration from you. Throw out some words, phrases or thoughts, and we’ll see what I can come up with. If only I could write as …
Someone asked me recently if I consider myself a “mommy blogger.” Hmm…I’m a mom. And I blog. So, technically, I suppose I am. But I’m also a lot of other things. I’m a wife, a sister, an aunt and a so-so friend (my poor pals have been pretty neglected these past few years). It’s not that I’m boring. I just don’t have time to be interesting.
As it turns out, not everyone is a fan of mommy bloggers. “All they do is talk about their kids’ bodily functions and tantrums and lack of sleep and blah, blah, blah…” I have to admit I was a bit intimidated to even start a blog for fear that “those” people wouldn’t think I was funny or clever.
But you know what? I really don’t care anymore. Writing is my outlet, my indulgence, …
