A curious thing has happened during the last several weeks. I’ve started a new job. One that I didn’t intend to begin (until a talented aunt encouraged and mentored me), but one that I’m growing more and more excited about as time passes by. I’m one of THOSE ladies. You know, the ones who go about flaunting their wares, looking for the next customer, unafraid to enter the homes of strange people and take payment in the form of cash, check or credit card after putting on a show. The money can be good, if you know how to work it.

I’m an independent sales rep for a high-end jewelry company. Geez, what were you thinking?

So there you have it. The cat’s out of the bag, so to speak. My first few weeks have gone tremendously …

It was just a typical Wednesday morning, or any morning, for that matter. I sat on the couch, laptop open, planning my grocery shopping trip for later in the afternoon. (It takes hours to plan when you attack the store like the crazy coupon diva you are.) My toddler sat at my right, still a bit groggy, munching on Cheerios while watching the annoyance that is Caillou. A notification popped up, informing me I had a new interaction on Twitter. “Probably just another spammy follower,” I thought to myself. But what I saw was not a scantily clad avatar with an obviously fictitious name and a feed propagated with virus-inducing links. No. This was a woman name Emma Wilson…from the BBC.

I’ll never wash this tweet.

The BBC! Was this for real? Could it be an acronym …

Relationships aren’t perfect, but if continually makes you feel like crap, RUN away as fast as you can. (image from teendating.blogs.sapo.pt)

Hello there. You may not know me, but I know you. Yes, you look at me, and see a worn-out young mom, navigating the aisles of the grocery store with two small children in tow. My cart is bulging with cereal, apple juice and produce, while you’re simply popping in to snag a pack of gum. We live very different lives. In your eyes, I’m probably irrelevant. And that’s okay. But you know what? I was just like you, not so very long ago. I had the same problems, experienced the same emotions, and lived to tell about it.

And while you may disregard what I have to say, I wish you would listen to this …

One of my goals for 2013 is to organize those areas of my home that I consider “rat’s nests.” The closets, junk drawers, etc. So, for inspiration, I turned to the one, the only, Pinterest. As I browsed storage ideas, organization tricks, “thrifty” home decor options, something happened. I started to feel…insecure. Inadequate. Less than. My home, not one square inch of it, looks anything like the pictures I see. It’s cluttered, dated, worn, scratched and definitely not a “Pin-Up” home. But you know what? It’s our home. And it’s full of love. It more than meets the needs of my little clan. So why, then, do I let a site like Pinterest make me feel dissatisfied?

So, I decided to take matters into my own hands. Why not bring a little reality to Pinterest? Why …

My 13 Wishes for 2013

THIS is why I am not going to attempt to clean/organize my entire home. This is AFTER the girls “cleaned” (aka destroyed) while I was in the kitchen doing the dishes.

I don’t believe in resolutions. I’ve rarely kept any of my own, and don’t know anybody who has experienced a major life change after making such a claim at the beginning of the year. But I suppose I believe in hitting “reset” on your own internal agenda. I think the beginning of a new year is a good time to evaluate what’s working and what’s not in your life. So with that, here are a few things I hope to accomplish in 2013.

1. A better smelling house. With two children under four, a dog, a cat and a man living in this house, it’s often …

Has it really been five days since I’ve written? Hmm. It feels strange…that it doesn’t feel strange. You see, I’ve had a bit on my plate the last two weeks. In the course of fourteen days, my youngest daughter first came down with the rotavirus, had two days of relative good health, then got another stomach bug for 24 hours, and then to top it all off, is now fighting RSV. Ooph. Throw in the typical Christmas hustle and bustle, plus a sick husband, and another sick child in the mix, and you start to see why I’ve been kept away from the laptop.

Now I guess that’s not completely true. I’ve had time to write. Small chunks of time, but time nonetheless. So, then, what kept me from sharing my usual once-a-day posts? I just …
