Escape to Cedar Crest Lodge in Eastern Kansas (and take me with you)

Cedar Crest Lodge is located in Pleasanton, KS, and is the ideal retreat.

Friends, I have found my dream home. And my dream kitchen. And my dream yard. Oh yeah, the best part? I don’t have to clean. Or cook. Or maintain the flower beds. But I do have to hand over a little moolah for each night I stay there. But is it worth it? Absolutely.

Cedar Crest Lodge is located in Pleasanton, KS, off Highway 69 between Fort Scott and Kansas City. It was the venue for my brother’s recent wedding, and it left me longing to return. The views were stunning, especially at this time of year with the leaves bursting in orange and red. The grounds were impeccable, with many interesting plant arrangements and areas to enjoy. And the lodge? It felt like my (dream) home. Seriously, if I won the lottery, and was able to build any home I wanted, I would build this (only maybe not quite so big). The materials were rustic, yet warm. The decor was inspired. The layout felt cozy despite the expansive size of the lodge.

Yes, it is really that beautiful. And you could be sitting on that porch swing.

Of course, the only thing that popped my dream bubble was my role as mother. Chasing around a three and one-year-old left me little time to just sit and enjoy the amenities, which is exactly why I’d like to go back. I would just start to picture myself sitting in a rocking chair on the patio, blanket over my shoulders, hot cup of coffee in hand, watching the sun come up, when I’d see my toddler bolting up the winding staircase. “Get back down here! Don’t touch that!” (The staff was super patient with my young ones, but I wouldn’t recommend it for kids under six. Too many places to hide and things to break. But that’s not a bad thing. Who doesn’t need a getaway from young children?)

Our room at the lodge. Maybe next time, we won’t have a toddler mattress on the floor between the beds and it can be a little more “romantic.”

If you’re looking for a couple’s retreat, or a girlfriend’s weekend, or a family reunion, or even an intimate wedding, Cedar Crest Lodge is an ideal location. They offer several different packages, and are flexible if your needs don’t fit perfectly within that arrangement. They even have on-site spa services available, for the ultimate in relaxation. And if you need to be well-connected during your stay, they offer free wi-fi. And let’s not forget the food (multi-course breakfast is provided for all overnight stays). Oh…the food. Seriously. It was SO good. Every morsel. These people know how to cook.

Rustic, yet elegant. Wood beams. Lovely decor. My dream home.

And guess what? They’re so friendly, so accommodating, that they’re giving away one of their cookbooks AND a $50 gift certificate! So, you can whip up one of their creations at home, and then book your stay. (The gift certificate will cover half the cost for a room in the lodge.) All you’ll need to do to enter your name in the drawing is Like both the Cedar Crest Lodge Facebook page and the Mom on the Range Facebook page. Then, leave me a message below letting me know how you’d like to use a gift certificate (for a romantic getaway, alone getaway, etc.). We’ll draw from the eligible entries on Tuesday, October 30. And even if your name isn’t drawn, I highly encourage you to book your stay soon.

You could be staying here soon! Just follow the directions above for a chance to win a cookbook and $50 gift certificate to Cedar Crest Lodge.

  1. I would love a romantic getaway with my hubby! We just celebrated our 10 year Anniversary and would love a quick get away!

  2. Would definitely use this fort husband and I. Nothin refreshes a SAHM and hard working husband like a small getaway! Heading over to like them now, and I’ve been a fan of yours for awhile 😉

  3. I would love to win a night here to go with my sisters. We are always trying to get together to spend some quality time, laughing and crying together. and this place looks BEAUTIFUL. I know we would love a night here.

  4. I need a romantic getaway!!! My husband is getting out of the military and were moving back to Kansas in November and our Anniversary is in January!!! All this makes for some much needed alone time!!!!!

  5. Before kids, we loved traveling to Bed and Breakfasts and exploring new cuisines and small towns while we traveled. Now we have kids and it’s hotels and McDonalds when we’re on the road. We’re slowly losing our souls to boring mediocrity! So if I won the gift certificate, I would take my husband on a kid-free mini vacation. And since we’d planned to take a trip for our 5-year anniversary last month that never panned out, it would be even more special. I am adding this one to my list of places to visit someday, as it looks just beautiful!

  6. I need a break. So does my wife. From the hustle and bustle, from life and from our children (whom we love dearly. But they need a break from us too.) It would be nice for my wife and I to get away by ourselves for a short time. I know it will make us better parents.

  7. I think it would be an awesome weekend getaway with my husband! We have been married for fifteen years and have five children ranging in age from 12 to 1, so getting away is not very easy sometimes! It looks like a beautiful place!

  8. I’d love to surprise my husband with this for our anniversary! It could be one last getaway before baby #2 arrives. What a beautiful place, I hadn’t heard of it before!

  9. I’d love to give it to my neighbor who has been a single mom of 3 and 5 year old little girls for the past several months. They moved in next door to us and two days later her husband left for Afghanistan for a year. He’ll be back in the states in Jan, and home for good in March. What a wonderful place for them to get reacquainted and ready for their life back together as a family with their two little girls. I’ll offer to babysit for them of course. 😉

    1. After reading your commment, I really hope you win! I think it’s amazing that you would so selflessly offer to give the trip to your neighbors and babysit their kiddos so they could spend time together after such a long deployment. Parenting is hard work, and I can’t imagine having to do it with my husband so far away. May God bless you for being such a good neighbor and thoughtful person!

  10. My hubby and I love weekend getaways and since our anniversary is less than a month away this looks like the perfect spot! I love reading your blog and following you on twitter, you are such a positive person! Thanks for sharing

  11. Sam and I celebrate 4 lovely years of our blended family on Nov 1. Would love to take our family on a little get away 🙂

  12. I would love to get away with the hubby for the weekend! We try to get away once a year and have not done so yet this year!

  13. Would love a chance to get away with my husband for a night, since he is a teacher and coach don’t get to see each other much.
