Super Easy for the Super Bowl

This month has been crazy. I mean craaaaazy. With a baby on the way (who thought about showing up early for a bit) and the general chaos of family life, I wasn’t sure I would even have a chance to make it to Whole Foods to fulfill my monthly Blog Ambassador commitment. And I use the term commitment loosely. If I can write a post, awesome. If not, no big deal. It’s not always possible for me. It’s an hour drive, and I don’t often have business in far East Wichita. But yesterday, I decided to take the trip. I always enjoy going, and I wanted to pick up a few special things for our family Super Bowl party on Sunday. Again, I’m using a term loosely. By party, I mean the four of us eating food we don’t normally eat and watching a little bit of the game before sending the girls to bed. It’s really an issue of cultural relevance. I’m not a big sports fan, but I’d like to catch the commercials.

With my 3-year-old in tow, I entered Whole Foods unsure of what I would even purchase. My mind was made up right when I entered the store though. Bam! Bucket of Buffalo wings. On sale. Can’t go wrong there.

Can't wait to heat these up!

Next, I sought out something with a little more crunch. Something salty and savory. Chips and salsa. But not any salsa. I wanted to support a hometown gal who’s worked her tail end off to launch a successful line of green tomato salsas…Sarah Jane. I’ll melt some cheese over these “blueberry chips” (as my preschooler called them), pour on some salsa, and call it nachos! Cheesy and easy.

It took A LOT of convincing to make my 3 y/o believe these weren't made with blueberries.

To wash it all down, I decided to splurge a little. After all, we’ve saved a lot of money this past year from my alcohol abstinence. (Not that my wine habit was all that expensive.) Still, Red Cherry cream soda isn’t something I ever purchase, and maybe, just maybe, I’ll drink it from a chilled glass and make it a little more special.

Mmm...it's not wine, but at least it's something special!

I hope you enjoy your Super Bowl Sunday, whether it’s with a room full of screaming sports-fanatic friends, or cuddled in your favorite chair with a can’t-put-down book. And if you’re able, swing by Whole Foods to grab a few super-easy snacks that offer a little something special.

  1. I may be adding some new favorites to my list after reading this post! My favorite football food is little smokies in barbecue sauce, but I am salivating over those chicken wings! Whole Foods is such a fun place to shop, isn’t it?

  2. The chicken wings look great. We actually bought them raw and marinated from the meat department at Whole Foods for New Year’s. Baked them and they came out fantastic.
